I thought interesting to create a blog post about travel photography. My latest trip to Puerto Rico was full of excitement and wonderful discoveries. I travel during the Christmas season which is one of the best time to be in the island. After my arrival in San Juan, I went to stay with friends and my wife's family in a mountain area call Cidra, which is named after a sparkling wine from Spain.
I was lucky enough to be shown parts of Puerto Rico that a normal tourist doesn't get to see. Apart from Old San Juan and the beaches, there are many other places in the country side and in the mountains that are both exotic and alluring. Here I will show you my experience and photograph I took alone the way. Follow me in this journey into paradise.
Mountain Trip
We started our trip through the mountains in the direction to San Juan. From there we took Highway 22 towards Arecibo. In Arecibo we took highway 2 in the direction of Isabela. Guajataca is just right before Isabela, there are several places to visit like, the tunnel of Guajataca is an old now closed train tracks tunnel. The train tracks walkway scenery is really nice, lots of views to take in. The Guajataca Beach has perfect photo opportunities for sunrise or sunset.
Coffee Farm
The second day of our trip took us to a mountains area called Adjuntas, in this area there is a Coffee Farm called Hacienda Tres Angeles. The farm is high in the mountains and the road to get to it is very narrow and treacherous, but the scenery is beautiful. Once we got to the farm the weather was cool and a little windy, the place felt enchanted. Once we made it to the main house, there was a spacious open porch with several picnics tables overlooking the farm. The main house has a cafe/shop serving coffee of course and food. The coffee was delicious and the food incredible. I had the Puerto Rican sancocho, very nice soup with corn, vegetables, potatoes and chicken. Here are some pictures I took around the farm.
Rincon
Rincon is a beautiful beach destination, it's a layback town popular among surfers and tourist. The views are beautiful and breath taken, lots of places to hang out. We first stopped to see the Faro which is inside a park. At the west side of the park, there is a bar overseeing the beach. What a beautiful place! We had a couple of cold ones and hanged out taking the views. You can see few of the photographs I took while in the Faro.
Old San Juan
We started the fifth day visiting Old San Juan. We arrived in the middle of the afternoon, the weather was gorgeous not too hot just perfect. We walked through the streets admiring the beautiful architecture, a mix of Spanish constructions with new World themes. The colorful buildings and houses, the gorgeous Churches and plazas.
At the end of the afternoon we stopped at a cafe and sat outside. We enjoyed delicious mojitos and sample some of the local cuisine, like tostones with shrimp and pasteles. As the sun was setting, we took advantage of the golden hour and took some photographs.
I recommend while traveling take a small camera with a wide angle lens. I took my trusty Fujifilm X-T4 with my 18mm lens. This is a perfect combo as it's not too heavy, but still packs a punch. I hope you enjoy this blog.
